Who am I? (Or go home.)

Hi! I’m Nikhil.

I’m a teacher, musician, writer, programmer, reporter, some other things. Most recently I have been teaching a course on data journalism at City University New York and completing an album of – sci-fi pop songs?

Before this, I spent a few years reporting for Quartz, first as a data and graphics journalist, then as a writer on topics like language and the inhumanity of “tech”, finally helping create and reporting for the video series Because China. My work at Quartz won numerous awards, including a SABEW, Malofiej, Information is Beautiful Gold, and multiple Data Journalism Awards. Along with my Because China colleagues, I was also a Loeb finalist.

Earlier I was a data journalist for the now-defunct but once-award-winning Australian non-profit news venture The Global Mail.
